Do You Qualify to be an Au Pair?
To be considered for the program, you should be able to meet these requirements:
- Have recent childcare experience
- Are 18-26 upon arrival
- Speak conversational English
- Pass a background check
- Have completed secondary school
- Have a full driver’s license
- Are in good health
- Commit to a year-long program
Steps to Becoming an Au Pair
1. Learn More
Speak with the Au Pair USA representative in your country to learn more about the program and determine if it is right for you.
2. Apply Online
Complete our application and tell us about your childcare experience, lifestyle, and why you want to be an au pair.
3. Interview & Match
Interview with interested host families and accept the match offer that is right for you.
4. Visa & Departure Preparation
Once you match, we'll help you apply for your J-1 visa, arrange your travel, and help you prepare to depart.
5. Complete Our Training
Complete the Online Academy Training Program, which includes Child Development, First Aid/CPR, American Culture, and more.
6. Travel to Your Host Family
Travel to the USA and meet your new American host family. Your Local Coordinator will meet with you shortly after your arrival.
Where Do Host Families Live?
Our au pairs live with host families across the USA, typically near larger cities and suburbs. The USA is a large and diverse country and there is a lot to see and do!
